Rift CD-r, ltd. 100, out of print
Our very first release! 100 CD-r copies in a 7″ open xeroxed sleeve, with a drawing by Wouter Vanhaelemeesch on the cover, and as an insert. Graphic design by Levi Seeldraeyers & Marijke Loozen. This one sold out pretty quickly.
Here’s a review by Downtown Music Gallery:
Reuben Radding and Nate Wooley should be familiar names to any of you who read this newsletter since both players are on dozen of sessions. Percussionist Ryan Jewell did once play here at DMG, but that’s about all I can tell you about him except that he has played with Jack wright, Bhob Rainey & Greg Kelley.
‘Rift’ features one 31+ minute piece. Both Reuben & Nate specialize in the playing of both lower case improv (quiet) and intense free music (louder). This disc consists of the cautious sounds of the former. Starting with the low-end rumbling of percussion, trumpet breathing sounds and eerie bowed bass fragments. I love the way Nate works at one note (or sound) at a time, holding on to it until it dies away. The entire piece unfolds very slowly in a most organic way. Rubbed strings, scratched surfaces, breath-like drones and small bent notes are what makes up a good deal of this excursion. Subtly enchanting throughout.
